What is a good reel to use for trolling.?

One large enough to hold a decent length of 27 pound test lead core line. I usually lake fish. Reel must have a line out clicker and also would you recommend a level wind reel? I have been considering an Abu Garcia but have no opinion on the size. Thanks

You dont want to use a level wind with lead core, it'll wear the guide in no time. AVET is my favorite. Made in USA with USa made parts. Excellent warrantee. I have 4 and they are literally bomb proof. NO PLASTIC.

What should i look for when buying a new fishing rod?

I am looking to upgrade but my budget is only 40-50 dollars for a rod. i saw at my local gander mountain, and i saw a rod that had 6-7 ball bearings but it was a spinning rod but i saw another rod that was a bait casting rod but it was only 3 ball bearings. what is the difference? i had a spinning rod but i want to change to a bait casting rod. What should i get?

Are you talking about a reel? They are the ones that have ball bearings. Ball bearings make a reel smoother. It's better to have 3 or 4 "good" bearings, than 8-9 "crappy" bearings. Most reels that have those multiple bearings and are low priced usually aren't worth buying. (All those bearings are probably crappy.) The main things i look at when buying a new reel is : amount of line recovery per rotation, line capacity, weight, and the number of ball bearings. What specific kind of fish are you fishing for? I could hook you up (no pun intended) with some pretty good reels. But for $40-$50 you aren't going to get "tournament" quality.

You mentioned rod, so i will go ahead and tell you what i look for in a rod : length, rod action, tip action, and weight size recommendation, along with line weight recommendation. Another big thing is graphite. Ask anyone and they will tell you graphite rods are the best to get. Don't have to pay a hefty price, you can buy a graphite rod for $25. Again if you give me some names of the fish you are fishing for i could help you out with a rod.

You don't necessarily have to give up on your spinning reel. Keep it too. If you're bass fishing, use the bait caster for Texas rigs, spinner baits, jigs, med-deep diving crank baits, top water frogs, along with top water poppers and walk-the-dog baits. In bass fishing, 50% of what i throw are Texas rigged plastics. That category of Texas rigs includes : lizards, worms, crayfish, any kind of creature bait.

And for the spinning reel? Spinning reels work good with : spinner baits, shallow diving crank baits, drop shotting, split shotting, weight-less rigs, and other finesse applications. The finesse techniques include : drop shotting, split shotting, weight less rigs, and a heck of a lot more. These require light lines, long rods, lighter action rods, and smaller baits. Finesse techniques are very good for heavily pressured, or clear water lakes, and also are effective in cold water.

If you want a 40-50 dollar rod, get the Shakespeare Ugly Stik Lite. If you want a 40-50 dollar reel, try the Mitchell 300 XE spinning reel or a Bass Pro Shops bait casting reel. If you are wanting a combo, save up another $50 or so. When you get around $100 get the Mitchell 300XE on a 6'6 medium action Ugly Stik Lite, or a Bass Pro Shops bait casting reel on a 6'6 med-heavy action Ugly Stik Lite.

Go back to the Grand Exchange and buy yourself a lobster pot then go to Karamja again (this time with your lobster pot not harpoon) and start fishing lobsters and banking them when you get a full inventory. It takes a long time to level up now so you have to be prepared for loads of trips.Oh and one inventory of lobsters is worth 8k!

Lvl 50-99
Remember that harpoon you bought at level 35 fishing? Well now's the time to take it out of your bank and bring it to Karamja, but this time for fishing swordfish. Whenever your inventory gets too full, drop any tuna that you can see in your inventory and continue fishing until you have a full inventory of swordfish. One inventory of swordfish is worth 14k so it will probably be very easy to make runescape money from now. Repeat this until you reach level 99 Fishing.

What type of Ice fishing gear do you need?

What is all the necessary equipment for ice fishing besides the Rod and Reel? Why do people have the portable heaters and point it towards the ice hole, is this so the water doesn't freeze. I just bought a Ice fishing Rod and was wondering can i use my Shimano Symetre 2500FI with 10lb braided test for ice fishing or do i need something smaller with a lower test.
Also if you do not have a depth finder how do you no how deep your fishing when ice fishing also what type of baits work for ice fishing. Live or Fake? Are Crappie minnows with a jig good?
Also I do not want to spend money and carrying a heavy Motorized Ice Auger so do those cheaper Hand Ice Auger work effectively. There are also different sizes for these Hand Augers what size is good?

Where are you Ice fishing?

In MN, there are only 5 major things you need to consistently catch fish & be comfortable doing it.

#1.) Auger- either an electric, gas, or hand auger.

#2.) Shelter- there are many variety's of shelters; Tents with the floor cut out, Clam shelters, built permanent houses, Etc.

#3.) Heat source- A decent propane heater with a low O2 oxygen cut-off.

#4.) A decent Flasher- Vexilar makes the most reliable (and cheapest) flasher , (Vexilar FL-8 $300)

#5.) Rods & Reels- A small spinning/ice-jig reel with 3-4LB diameter Power Pro or Berkley Ice Fireline.

Obviously, you don't want to go out and spend $6-$800 to get started?

Here's the Budget list-

1.) Auger- You HAVE to own an auger. A hand auger works fine for thin-medium thick ice, (6"-2FT). But they require some muscle power and sweat to utilize. The size hole you want to punch equals the size/species of fish you want to pursue. (Example- If your mainly after Panfish get the 5"; if your thinking Pike, Walleye, & Panfish get the 8"; if your mainly after Lake Trout/Large Pike & Big Walleye get the 10".)

However, understand: the larger the hand auger, the harder to punch holes. I suggest you get an 8" or 6". Lazer is a good brand.

2.) Shelter- If you don't want to purchase a Clam shelter or cheap tent you CAN just sit in a camp-chair or bucket on the ice.

The problem?

When you go it may only be 30 degree's outside, but once you get out in the middle of the lake due to wind the windchill will drop the temp 10-15 degree's.

Do you really want to sit on a bucket in 15-20 degree weather? I've done it plenty and it takes all the fun out of fishing! (lol) (Heck, I once almost literally froze my @ss off! lol)

3.) Heater- If your gonna sit on the ice get a cheapy heater, (with no O2 sensor/ like a Coleman Black Cat). At least you can keep your hands and feet warm and your hole open. If you decide to get a closed shelter you need a heater with a low O2 sensor so you don't suffocate yourself. "Mr Heater" is the best brand of portable propane heater's available, (with low O2 sensors).

4.) Flasher- You don't NEED a Vexilar but , (in most cases), it's the difference between catching "something decent" and catching nothing or 6" Perch all day!

You can get a used auger for $30, get an old used tent for $25 and cut the floor out, buy a Mr. Heater for $80-$100, BUT having a functional flasher will be one of your most important tools, (in my opinion).

Why?

1.) It gives you depth readings so you can find the exact place where drop-offs & lake structure are located, (in some cases you can be 6 FT off of a drop-off or a school of fish and you won't get a bite).

#2.) In "real time" you can watch your ice-jig and entice fish by actually jigging and watching fish hit, (in most cases you can watch fish hit your jig and know when to strike them).

#3.) Being able to see "thermoclines" is very important in ice fishing. Usually fish hover around the thermocline, if you have a Vexilar you can know exactly where (and at what depth) to drop your jig or jig/minnow.

Electronics are important when fishing "soft water" but when your ice fishing it is imperitive. When the water is 26 degrees and the fish move like they are in syrup you need all the help you can get to catch them! And Vexilars are super easy to read & operate; drop the puck in the hole and turn it on!

If you don't get a flasher then you better know the lake your fishing, or be an excellent lake map reader! Or you can use the old "Swede" method of clipping on a 1 OZ weight to your line to find out the depth. This works, but only gives you the depth.

5.) Rods & Reels- Ugly Stik makes a great Ice fishing rod, (esp for bait fishing). If your going to do some Ice-jigging for Panfish/Walleye get a rod with a sensitive tip. Lines OVER the diameter of 4LB-6LB mono are too heavy, (unless your fishing giant Lakers and then you could go as high as 8-10LB diameter). A 3-4LB braided line is perfect. Try Berkley Fireline and Power Pro in the 3-4LB range.

Baits- Yellow Ice float, split shot, hook is a good standard rig. You can also use an ice jig/minnow combo or an Ice Fly. The Rapala Ice Jig is popular.

Minnows- (Fathead & Crappie)- used for Crappie, Walleye, Pike.

Red Wigglers, Meal Worms, Maggots, Earthworms- Bluegill, Crappie.

Shiners- Walleye & Pike

can someone help me chose a fly fishing rod and reel?

I Like to fish a fairly small river the Powell River to be specific for smallmouth and the clinch for fairly large trout. I'd like to keep it fairly cheap any ideas?

Have to agree with the other posters- a 6wt would suit you best, depending on the size of the bass a 7wt would also suit, without being too heavy handed.
Another point i must agree with, you can spend a small sum on a rod, but what you really need to do is buy a quality WF line-to match the rod, in this case a 6wt, a floating line is all you need to start with.

As for rods, well i wouldn't normally recommend TFO(temple for outfitters) but recently i cast one and for the price it wasn't all that bad. They have enough power in the blank to handle harder fighting fish, i also recommend a model with a fighting butt, for ease of use. Redington is also a brand i would suggest looking into, if you don't want to spend too much, kmdtackle.com, has the cheapest prices for redington i have seen online, so check them out!

Am I missing anything?

I am leaving to live alone in the wild near Georgian Bay, Ontario.

I have a large hockey bag packed with the following: (yes I can carry this)

Lots of warm clothing

3000 ft of fishing line

Large 3 person tent (or do you recommend a smaller tent?)

1 hatchet

100 feet of rope

1 pair of rubber boots

1 life jacket
1 first aid kit
paper/pen to write letters
waterproof matches
lighters
pictures of loved ones
pocket scope
tarp
hunting knife

knife + multi tool
Gloves and hats
2 sleeping bags
lots of knifes
mp3 player with about 200 AAA batteries
3 grams of marijuana and papers
a lot of food

What does this poem mean.....? i don't get it?

The rubber at the end of the pencil erases the cruelty I may write after a day that the introverted amongst us will be all to familiar with
Frantically I'll search for the rubber to erase the words that effortlessly glided of you tongue

Strange isn't it how that Man will lift the lid on the harsh reality at a time when you dread it?
Strange isn't it how God uses his pen; writes a story and He's your puppet master and you're there dancing along to his tune....so, I assume he wrote down the words which you spoke?
What do you think of it as well?

I could be wrong but it seems to me that he is bitter and angry about his breakup with this girl and so masks his pain by calling her nasty names and saying she does not mean anything to him. He says there are plenty more out there. But the next day he realises just how much he loves and is sickened by what he said. He is in denial saying you did not really break up with me. " So i assume he wrote down the words you spoke?" He cannot believe she does not love him. Hope this helps!
