What is a good reel to use for trolling.?

One large enough to hold a decent length of 27 pound test lead core line. I usually lake fish. Reel must have a line out clicker and also would you recommend a level wind reel? I have been considering an Abu Garcia but have no opinion on the size. Thanks

You dont want to use a level wind with lead core, it'll wear the guide in no time. AVET is my favorite. Made in USA with USa made parts. Excellent warrantee. I have 4 and they are literally bomb proof. NO PLASTIC.

Tuna are huge and delicious saltwater game fish. Tuna fishes are large in size and hence many enjoy fishing as it is a big game fishing target. The season matters a lot for tuna fishing since you will not be able to find any during the summer. The tuna stay near the surface of the water when hunting for bait fish. During winter, the tuna go down deeper into the water and rarely risk up to the surface. It is better for tuna fishing during the late afternoons. An additional method for tuna fishing is drifting and builds a burley trail in order to wait for the fish to show up.

When each and every time the fish turns up to the anglers transmit out a baited hook in to the trail for tempting fishes to bite. In certain situations, chum or bait fish styled flies proves to work at times. what is your absolute favorite brand of fishing line that you use?
what poundage do you use?

I use trilene and love it the rapala knot holds (for me) the best of all and on this side of the sierras I use green line and in the deep blue sea and the eastern sierras, I use clear. I use fluorocarbon leaders from time to time and the palomar knot is the only knot I like on fluorocarbon.
for trout I use 2lb.
large mouth, small mouth and stripers from 4 -12 lb
in shore spotted bay bass 6lb
halibut 6 lb - 10 lb maybe with as much as a 20 lb leader
calico bass in rocks 6-10 lb (only)
white sea bass, salmon and yellow tail and dorado 15 - 18lb

Is there a simple but effective method to test the breaking strain of fishing line?

I have read that testing of fishing line requires sophisticated and expensive equipment. I wonder whether anyone has been able to put together a simple piece of equipment by which the breaking strain of fishing line could be tested quickly and accurately.
The reason for asking this question is because it is necessary to test the breaking strain of line for line-class competitions and for IGFA line class records. (Scott, please note)

Use a swivel to emulate the knot you would be using while actually fishing, and attach a bucket on the end. Slowly add weight (water works well) until the line breaks. Weigh the bucket. If you don't have a good scale for that, estimate the weight by the volume of water it took to snap the line: water weighs about 8 lbs per gallon, so you can get an easy 40 lbs of weight in a 5-gallon bucket.

Would this be a decent first time bass combo?

I will just be fishing small drop-shot worms, wacky rigged senkos, you know finesse soft plastics. Maybe even lizards. I am not going to be a full blown bass angler, just a monthly thing. It will work but you got better choices within that price range.

Currently, there are several nice combos that will do a better job than the combo you picked. The combo impressed me the most is Daiwa D-Shock. It got a fairly smooth front drag spinning reel and a graphite rod and it is very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, there is a catch. I do not recommend that you purchase those combos online because you absolutely need to see those rods in person.

The markings on those rods are VERY MESSED UP. There are at least 3 (maybe even 4) variations of rods out there! One will be a fiberglass rod. The other two are graphite or graphite composite rods; one will feel more like a medium-light and one will feel feel closer to a medium-heavy fiberglass rod. They will look exactly the same and they will have the exact same markings on them even though they are actually quite different. There's absolutely no way you could find out about this unless you held those rods in your hands! You could find out if the rod was made out of graphite (or graphite composite) rather easily. You only need to disassemble the 2 piece rod and look into the rod blank. If you saw a solid piece of dark gray carbon like material in the center of the rod, you found yourself a graphite rod. You could find out if the rod is closer to a medium-light or closer to a medium-heavy by wiggling it.

Daiwa D-Shocks will come with either 1 ball bearing reels or 3 ball bearings reels. Most combos that came with a 3 ball bearing reel will also come with the stiffer graphite rod. Unfortunately, I couldn't guarantee that. You really need to wiggle those rods in your hand to find out which rod it came with.

These combos are VERY CHEAP now because the manufacturer knew they messed up big time on their recent batch(es). Take advantage of this situation. These combos are very good buys.

PS: I think you should look for that graphite, medium-heavy rod. You could find 1 ball bearing, medium-heavy graphite rod combos between $16 to $18! 3 ball bearing reel combo will cost about $2-$3 dollars more.
