Fishing Guide

We live on a lake in central Minnesota. This lake is one of the premiere fishing lakes in the state. Many people come here on day and week fishing trips. Most people bring their own boats, but there are others that go out on launch trips or hire one of the many private fishing guides to take them out fishing. This allows for business opportunities for many people that live on the lake, but people should make sure that the fishing guides that are hired know the lake as well as the feeding patterns of the fish.

We had fished this lake for many years prior to buying our home. My husband had been fishing here when he was a young boy. With the modern technology of GPS and lake mapping on marine electronics, it is very easy to find different depths and fishing spots on the lake. After we had lived on the lake for a year my husband contacted one of the local fishing guides and asked if he could enter some his fishing spots on the lake on his GPS. This particular guide has been very successful on the lake. He told my husband that he did not want to share the fishing spots because he did not want a lot of other people fishing where he was. My husband mentioned this to a friend of ours that owns the local bait shop. The bait shop owner laughed and told my husband that this particular guide does not know how to use GPS and so he does not own a unit, which is why he did not share any of the fishing spots. The bait shop owner told us that there are no requirements to pass in order to be considered a guide. He said that many of the people that advertise their services as fishing guides simply take people out in their boats and hope to catch some fish. Some people are more successful at this than others, but there are no requirements.

I was surprised by this information. If I was going to a lake to fish I would assume that the people that are listed as fishing guides would have safety training and other certification in order to take others out onto the lake. You do have to have coast guard training if you have a launch or a boat over thirty five feet, but there are many guides that have twenty foot boats that take people out fishing. This was disappointing to my husband because one of his retirement dreams was to be a guide on the lake. Now that we live here we realize that there are more than enough people already offering to guide. I told my husband that we should look into having an actual service that would provide a more special outing than just a day in a fishing boat. We are going to plan a business around the adventure of fishing rather than just advertising guide services.

The Romans transported the carp to Europe within the 4th century AD. Even though carp thrived in Europe, this class of fish did not come to Britain until the 1400s by means of monks who used them for eating. After that carp became a highly pursued fish by UK anglers, especially in light of the fact that they grow fairly big in size and will put up a fierce fight against the angler.

Carp Fishing Equipment – Carp Territories and Actions

Carp mature fast and in light of their size, they generally become the overtaking species in the area where they thrive. These are schooling fish that will take several kinds of bait and will put up a challenging fight on the line. A good time to do carp fishing is summertime because they feed less and are more inactive because of lowered metabolism. Carp can also be found in diverse water types and circumstances, but many species prefer large bodies of standing or very slow waters which have softened, vegetal bottom sediments. These fish can get as big as 60 pounds, with a few award winning specimens growing to more than 90 pounds. Nonetheless, smaller ones are more general, growing from 10 to 20 pounds.

Carp Fishing Equipment – Efficient Baits for Carp

Carp may be attracted by various kinds of baits, such as maggots, bread, worms and fake baits such as plastic corn. The best form of bait is the boilie, which is favoured amongst most experienced carp anglers. Boilies are a unique type of fishing bait, that Wikipedia defines in this manner:

“Boilies are boiled paste fishing baits, usually combinations of fish meals, milk proteins, bird foods, semolina and soya flour, which are mixed with eggs as a binding agent and then boiled to form hard-ish round baits which will last in the water. Additional flavourings and attractors are also usually included in the mix. The round shape allows the baits to be catapulted accurately when fishing at range.”

Carp are intellectual fish which will steer clear of good baits and thus present quite a dilemma for anglers trying to develop attractive baits such as boilies. On the contrary, if these type fish are hungry, and if the setting is proper, they will be enticed by any sort of bait, like maggots and lunch meat. If you’re seeking large carp, though, be sure to use boilies, particularly, the ones made from sweetcorn.

Carp Fishing Equipment – Strategies for Carp Fishing

One method of snagging carp is to employ floating baits on the water’s surface. In light of the fact that carp hang around near the surface and are seen easily, it’s a simple matter to place a tasty bait where the carp can get to it. Whilst carp can be somewhat suspicious, circumvent this by being stealthy. Draw near to the bank with caution and don’t rush your cast. One tactic to try is to throw some loose bait out on the water to tempt the fish. When the feeding begins, put your line in cautiously and be tolerant. You can rest assured that a fish will will in due course be attracted to the bait.

Carp fishing supplies in the UK doesn’t call for unique tackle, but you need to be enduring and vigilant when preparing the bait.

With a compressed rounded body shape and gorgeous colors of green, red, brown and blue, (There are 4 ‘real’ discus variants, with their own Latin name. The rest of the color variants are captive bred and the list of these color variants is nearly endless. They have exotic names like, ‘White Diamond’, ‘Blue Diamond’ ‘Snake Skin’, etc… ) discus fish are among the most popular aquarium freshwater fish in the world. Native from the Amazon River, Wild caught discus fish first started to appeared in the 1920s, discus fish are spread all over the world being part of true industries in Asia, for instance. When they reach adulthood, discus fish are no bigger than eight to ten inches and they make great pets, bringing an excellent array of lively color to your house. Make sure you know everything about the needs of this fish breed before even thinking about keeping them, though discus fish are not very fragile, they still require a lot of care.

Discus fish make excellent aquarium inhabitants and they can be combined with other species in the habitat, the best choices would be the uaru or the tetras species. Normally discus fish are very serene creatures; they are a bit sensitive to stress and a disturbing environment but most fish are. However it is not too great an idea to combine them with fish that are quite a bit smaller, as the discus fish may eat them. It is also totally unadvisable to combine any variety of discus fish with catfish since you might find you just end up with fat catfish and no discus. Like all aquarium creatures, discus fish require optimal living conditions; otherwise they are exposed to disease and may die.

As the natural water temperature the discus fish are used to, is around 26-31 degrees Celsius ( 79 to 88 °F ), you will have to recreate and maintain very similar conditions. The hardness of the water ranges from 3 to 10° dGH. Additionally, in the wild, the environment discus fish live in is slightly acid, so make sure you adjust the pH values to such coordinates, between 5.5 and 6.5 the pH is completely friendly to your pets. If the discus fish were bred in captivity they may just as well adapt to higher pH values, but not during the mating season when you really have to provide optimal conditions.

Keep in mind that discus fish are very clean animals, and the water you put in their tank has to be really clean, without the any trace of pollution whatsoever. You need to use a high capacity filter to cycle the water constantly.

There are plenty of information sources to learn more on discus fish and their breeding; such a reliable site is discus fish blog that will definitely assist you in satisfying the needs of your discus fish.

Fishing in the UK is a sport that’s both relaxing and exciting. The relaxing part is casting a baited hook into the water and waiting for an unsuspecting fish to happen by. The exciting part is when the fish takes the bait. Here’s some information about two types of Fishing Equipment required for this enjoyable sport.

When you are starting out as a fisherman in the UK, it is best to start with the most simplistic form of Fishing Equipment. It really doesn’t require a lot of fishing gear to go fishing. However, a rod or pole is indeed a necessary piece of equipment. The fishing pole is used to suspend the line from which hangs the bait for the fish. Bamboo, fiberglass and carbon fiber are all basic materials used to make the poles. The fishing rod is used for the same purpose but is somewhat more sophisticated. They have various lengths and also vary in action. The sizes are available from a 24-inch rod to 20 foot one. The casting is better with the longer rod.

There are many different types of fishing rods. A carbon fiber pole is a more technologically advanced pole, which is usually used for coarse fishing in Europe. Fly fishing rods are made to cast artificial flies. They are part of the Fishing Equipment used to catch salmon in the UK. Many fishermen in the UK use this salmon fishing equipment each year for a successful catch. Normally salmon is fished from the rivers in England, although it can be done well in the sea also. In addition to the right rod, you will need waders for the majority of UK Rivers in order to get to the best fishing places.

When you are searching for sea fishing equipment in the UK, try to find sea rods made to be used on the open sea. These rods will be built stronger and longer than the other kinds. For sharks and other huge game, specialty rods are designed. Be sure that the deep-sea fishing rod that you have selected can hold up to the pressure of the resistant larger fish when they are hooked. Also be certain that it is constructed from material such as fiberglass or graphite, which will resist corrosion from the salt air.

Every other part of your tackle has to be able to fit with your rod. This includes the lines, lures, reels and hooks. If you aren’t sure about your choices, get advice from a more experienced fisherman. You need to bear in mind that no matter what kind of fish you are trying to catch in the UK, you have to have the right fishing equipment to be successful.

Not every fishing trip can be a bonefish bonanza — even in the Bahamas where it’s often possible to trip over scores of the speedy, silver bomblets. But even under the worst weather conditions, a competent guide ensures the angler gets to bend a rod. — read more
Which Fly Rod/Reel should I get?

I really want to get into fly fishing, just to do something different besides the usual fishing with my spinning rod and reel with lures, jig, etc. Though I know very little about Fly fishing. I know a bit about the simple stuff, like what the rod wt means and stuff like that, but I don’t know what works best for what. First, What size rod should I get (wt). I mainly fish largemouth and peacock bass, and occasionally I fish saltwater for fish no more than a few pounds. But I am also interested in catching small tarpon that I see very often in a lake behind my house. What Rod wt would be best for my needs? Also, what is a good, affordable brand of rod and reel to get, I heard redington is a good brand and cheaper than other brands, but im not so sure. And if there is anything else that is important that i should know, please let me know, thanks!

I think I would look towards an 8 weight for your needs, possibly a 7.

Redington is a good brand but I’ve heard some quality complaints as of late. St. Croix makes a good value line of rods. G. Loomis has their GL2 line and I believe a line designed for bass.

Look to spend $100 for a rod for anything resembling functional. The reel you can easily skimp on. The rod and the line are the most important investments.

Personally I think it is easier to just by xbox 360 live cards online, I get mine at http://www.xbox360livecard.com/

To achieve success in life target setting is very important. But, people do not know how to set targets and how to implement. The ability to set targets and make plans for their achievement is the tremendous ability of success. It is the single-most significant ability that you can learn and perfect. Target setting will do more to help you get the things you want in life than will something else you’ve been exposed to. Becoming a specialist at target-setting and target-achieving is something that you completely must do if you wish to fulfill your potential as a human being.

Targets enable you to do the job you want to do, to live where you want to live, to be with the people you get pleasure from, and to become the kind of person you want to become in your life. And there is no limit to the financial rewards you can get. All you have to do is to set a target for financial success, make a plan, and then implement the plan until you succeed in that area. The payoff for setting targets and making plans is being able to decide the kind of life you want to live.

So why do so not many people set targets? According to the recent research, less than 3 per cent of Americans have sets their targets and less than 1 per cent review and rewrite their targets on a daily basis. So the reasons why people don’t set targets have been of substantial interest to us. I think that there are few basic reasons why people don’t set their targets.

People are simply not serious about their life. Whenever I speak with a man or woman who has achieved great or extraordinary, I learn that the achievement occurred after that person determined to “get serious.” Until you become totally serious and totally determined about your targets, nothing really happens. People do not understand the importance of targets. We find that young men and women who begin setting targets very early in life always come from families in which the importance of targets is emphasized. The discussion that takes place just about your family dinner table is one of the most powerful determining influences in your life.

I hope in this article you have read the some useful information about target setting to achieve great success in your life and few reasons why people don’t set their targets.

A crab will kill and eat your guppies while they are trying to sleep. The khuli loach would be better. I’m not sure the khuli loach is an ideal solution, but it’s better than a crab! Frankly, I’d go with a small species of pleco, like a clown pleco, rubber mouth or bristle nose pleco instead of either of those two. Khuli loaches can get large and rambunctious enough to harass guppies and platies.

Spool Fly Reel
UK: Is it OK to fish a commercial lake using a centre-pin reel?

I’m a complete newbie to angling, and I’m going to my local coarse lake for the first time this weekend to give it a go! As it’s my first time I’m going to get a peg on the ‘novice’ lake that’s stocked mostly with silverfish and a few small carp.

I’ve done a bit of casting practise on a field near my house, and must admit I find a fixed-spool reel quite fiddly as I have butter fingers! I find it much easier to cast using my Dad’s fly reel, which has no gears. Could I use this for the sort of angling I’ll be doing at the lake? I’m only doing it for a couple of hours of quiet fun anyway, not for any sort of competition.

Also, does having coloured line have any disadvantage over clear line when on a lake? A friend has a spare spool of 10lb line she’s let me have, but it’s yellow.

Thanks!

People have said centrepins & fly reels are different – true. But put a lot of backing on a fly reel & the experience will not be utterly disimilar.

Your current problems with the fixed spool reel will seem like nothing compared to the issues you’ll have with a centrepin – slow retrieve & having to feed off line to cast will become very wearing.
On small, fast waterways where casts are short (no need to feed of yards of line) & control a priority a centrepin makes sense but on lakes there’s a good reason why 99/100 anglers use FSRs.

Check you’re using the FSR correctly – unless you’re a real window licker it should be very simple; now if you were trying to cast with a multiplier I could understand…

10lb is too much (thick/stiff) for silverfish so the colour is moot; 1-200yds of c.4lb is more what you’re after for mixed float fishing.

What weight fly rod is best for fishing Brook trout in small streams?

There are a few places nearby which offer some brookie fishing but I think that my 9 foot 5 weight is a little too big for the small trout. I was thinking along the lines of a small 3 weight. What do you think?
Thank you

You may be correct about downsizing the length but , (in my opinion), a 4-5 weight would be perfect.

Why?

In those “small streams” can be BIG Trout. (When I say “big” I mean 3-4LB). Small streams “weave and divert” terribly making it important to quickly subdue your quarry.

I have a 7′ 6″ 4-5 weight that works perfectly for the Brookies I chase. The stream averages about 8-12 FT across and has heavy overgrowth on the banks during the fishing season. I KNOW for a fact there are bigger Trout in this stream; I’ve seen them………..

Hope this helps?

Totally, or even take them to a shelter in your area. They refuse clothes since so many people take clothes there, but take your items, you might be surprised by how many people can knit, or know how to that would love to restart that hobby……

Don’t look overseas, look next door or down the block.

America is hurting, there are so many people here that need help that by sending overseas is sometimes a disgrace to ourselves. We are Americans and helping each other should be first, no matter what color we are…….

What is a fishing reel? As per the definition, the fishing reel is a devise used for deployment and retrieval of fishing line with a spool mounted on the axle.

There are different types of fishing reels

The Shimano is a very well known company that manufactures the Fishing reels and has been around for more than 80 years. The Shimano fishing reels are most popular among the fishermen and outdoor professionals who need a fishing gear to succeed.

Krocodile Spoon Lures?

i bought some 5/8 oz and 1 oz krocs for SURF FISHING and they dont seem to produce anything… i tried everything there is to it (fast, slow, ripping, etc..) and got mad and bought some other design krocs.. and still nothing ): at the same spot, i threw my Lucky crfts and bam got hit ><!!!!!!

1: how do YOU use them?

2: size matter? (description on each size will be nice please)

3: any sites that give good information would be a plus! (:
nothing yet?.. i guess no one actually uses these... ):

they work well in freshwater lakes and streams. i would buy a lure that is at least 6 inches long to catch something in the surf. the best bait for me is softshell sand crabs
