rod guide adhesives fixing broken rod guides?
what kinds of adhessive is used to fix broken tip tops.... g. loomis has sent me new tips that are not the original ones from my imx rods and they didnt send me adhessive to use.... it recomends crazy glue and such but once on it will be a hassle to change again!... will a normal stick of hot glue work as an adhessive??? ive seen vids were the adhessive looks like hot glue sticks
The only thing to use, as far as I'm concerned, is the epoxy resin I use in archery. I use the the same resin to repair old rods as I do to attach arrow heads to wooden arrows. It comes in amber blocks and to work with it you can soften it with flame. Maybe it does look a little like hot glue sticks -- but it's much, much tougher and it has a flex/give to it that won't break up, crack, or succumb to water. Hot glue is flexible for a while but it becomes brittle over time. Krazy Glue or other cyanoacrolate adhesives are brittle as glass when they set. Krazy Glue also breaks down with repeated exposure to water, and given that this is a FISHING pole, that's not a good thing. Resin also has at least working time -- it's not so instant as Krazy Glue.
I have seen your posts and you seem like a "country boy" who is good at hunting and outdoorsmanship. Probably won't be hard for you to scare up some arrow resin -- you can get it anywhere traditional archery stuff is sold.
Barring that, get some rod repair compound from a good fishing tackle shop. I don't remember any name brands, but there are some little bottles of repair compound that will re-attach an eyelet or glue down fibers. I have also found that a fly tying material called "head cement" is useful for making minor repairs to fishing rods -- you can get various kinds of head cement anywhere fly fishing stuff is sold.
