What kind of lures do use to fish for Tuna?
Going to mexico and fishing for tuna need to know what size of lures to use. Are taddy lures good to use and what size
Generally you'll want a heavy chrome lure for casting. Cast it out (on a drifting boat, cast on the side with the wind at your back so you don't bother with the bait lines), give it a sink until iut's at about a 30-45 degree angle (maybe 45 seconds, depending on how far you cast), then wind in medium fast.
I've done well with Tady 9 in chrome, as well as similar-sized lures from different manufacturers. If you're far enough south that wahoo are a possibility, be sure to rig them with a short wire leader. (If you're doing a 1-3 day trip out of San Diego, don't worry about wahoo, if you're doing an 8+ day trip or fishing out of a resort more than halfway down Baja, wahoo are likely to be around.)
If the tuna get really crazy (yellowfin, that is), you can get them to eat a skip jig -- a big, light lure like a Tady 45, cast out as far as you can and dragged and skipped across the surface. Color doesn't seem to matter, as the lure's barely in the water. This is fun, watching them crash on the lure, but not the best way to catch them, as they miss the jig as often as they get hooked.
If you're trolling, the best lure is a Rapala CD-18, in a mackerel pattern. If you have it adjusted right, it'll swim just fine at 9-10 knots (a standard offshore trolling speed). Again, wahoo will eat this, too (though they like the Marauders better) so a wire leader might be needed if you're down south.

The only way to keep up with the latest news about fishing is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about fishing, it won't take long for you to become an influential authority on the subject.
Tuna fishing can be fun provided you know the rules and facts of fishing. These fish are magnificent and attractive to behold. But the layman who have little knowledge about fishing and tuna, would find catching these wonderful fish to be a challenge and stressful at the same time. Therefore before you make the mistake of spending thousands of dollars trolling around the ocean, you should consider these tuna fishing techniques that will help you in catching more tuna and having more fun as well.
Most experienced tuna fishers readily agree with the fact that fishing for tuna can be a challenging, but rewarding adventure. Tunas are speedy swimmers and can swim at a speed of more than forty eight miles per hour. There are also several species of tuna that are warm-blooded.
The first thing you should consider when fishing for tuna is the season. During the warm summer months, tuna like to stay near the surface of the water. They tend to enjoy the warm surface temperatures of coastal waters. During the winter months, however, tuna tend to dive deep and stay there, making it more difficult to find these incredible fish.
When searching for possible fishing grounds, it is crucial that you pay attention to your environment. Be on the lookout for diving birds. Where there's diving birds, there are schools of fish. Where there are schools of fish, the chances of finding tuna are more.
Additionally, it you see whales or sharks, tuna are likely to be in the area. Continue searching for diving birds or bait fish splashing on the surface of the water.
When fishing for tuna, troll at speeds of 5 to 8 miles per hour. Most professionals like to use a typical 'W Pattern' while trolling. This pattern consists of 2 long lines held out on each outrigger, 2 shorter lines held out flat and four deep lines straight down the middle. Additionally, it is helpful to display a flashy presentation of multiple lures. The more they splash, sparkle and shine the better. What you want is to trick the tuna in to thinking that it's stumbled across a panicked school of bait fish.
