Should a few individuals be allowed to become rich by cutting down the forests on this earth?

Most of Asia that was one time teeming with rain forests are now deserts, all because the corrupt leaders and their mates in those countries became very wealthy by selling their trees to equally corrupt rich and powerful westerners who keep profitting from the good quality timer from Asia.

There is nothing left to cut in places such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines, so now these western countries and japan are doing all they can to lure Bhutan which has preserved their forests in pristine condition to sell their trees. But Bhutan has refused to give in to these ecological terrorists.

This earth belongs to everyone and what right do a few powerful individuals have to get even richer by exploiting nature?

I guess it depends on if they own the land. You can't prevent them from doing what they want, building or developing, land that they own. So the problem comes from selling it to them, not regulating what they do with it once they own it.
